Christmas eve accident

Christmas Eve Jim was snowboarding on Mt Charleston with close family friends. He hit an icy patch and flipped his board landing on his back injuring 3 vertebrae. The did surgery at UMC Christmas Day. They sent him home from the hospital Tuesday evening. well... he made it through another night. Jim is tougher than we think. Although he is in a lot of pain he is working hard to get stronger. Thanks Grandma for having us at your place where he has everything he needs as well as a 24-7 nurse. Thanks friends and family for your prayers and support. We are blessed.

artist spotlight - Cristy Butzen a fellow Stampin Up demonstrator

Start by cutting up your choice of double-sided paper into squares (mine were 1" squares of Holly Berry Bouquet). This ornament takes about 15 squares.

Once your squares are cut, they need to be rolled into a conical shape (I used a paper piercer for this part).

Use a bit of adhesive to hold the cones closed. Make sure the seam is on the same side every time, or your ornament will look a little wonky.

I punched a Red Glimmer Paper shape from the Perfect Pennant Die (my new fave, #123126) to mount my cones, and glam-up the back side of the ornament.

After the cones are all mounted to the wrong side of the glimmer paper, make yourself a lolly to cover the center (mine was made from 8.5" x 3/4" DSP, scored every 1/4"). Hot-glue may be needed to hold that lolly down!

Top off with a button (Holly Berry Bouquet Designer Buttons), add a hanging cord and place on your tree or gift!

YES, We are hiring new Demonstrators

I was at the bank a few weeks ago waiting in line, I had a catalog with me and was looking for a new idea for my next event when another friend in line looked back at me and asked if I was still looking for someone willing to sell stamps. I said I was still looking for one more person. Before I left the bank someone else in line came up to me and said she had been looking for a job and she handed me a paper with her name, address and phone number on it. I called her up a few days ago and asked her a few important questions like did she have a SS#, have access to a computer, access to transportation, and if she was still willing to earn money by selling stamps. She said she was, so we met at a starbucks (because they have free internet) and we filled out her paperwork online. I'm willing to sign up anyone who has a desire to earn a little income or wants the discount on their own products. As you may be able to tell, I live in a very small town. Most people are friendly here and spend quite a deal of time talking while waiting in lines.

Carry your catalog with you when you are out running errands. Keep your business cards with you at all times.

Let others know that you are looking for new team members. Be willing to talk to new people and see if what you have will fill their needs. Stampin Up is a relationship built organization, people are more important than the stamps we sell. When we think of Stampin Up is a way to help people fill the needs they have in their lives we don't feel pushy at all about suggesting they talk to us about making it part of their life.

Also when you are traveling to and from an event, wear your stampin up apron. Put a few sample cards in your pockets. When you stop to get gas go into the store to pay for it. How many times have you seen someone in their uniform and asked them where they work? When you are interested in what people do, they will be interested in what you do as well. Stampin Up is and can be a great income for families looking for work. Be willing to offer your services to help others earn money while doing something they LOVE.

As long as you continue to feed the needs of your team members they will stay with us. Sure once in a while someone will have all the supplies they will possibly need for a life time but most of the time we enjoy stamping so much we can never give it up. I don't know what I would do without my stamping friends, my team members, and the income our family receives each month from me doing what I love.

Please share your helpful thoughts and good experiences here for others to read. Something you say make spark their memory and have a positive impact on their life.

And, just one penny can make a difference today in the lives of children and families. Ronald McDonald House and Stampin Up demonstrators and volunteers making a difference in Las Vegas Nevada

One December before Christmas I visited the Children's Hospital and stamped with a little boy who had been in fire. He was badly burned all over and he was bandaged from neck to his toes. One are had mobility. The hair on his head was gone and his eyebrows were singed. You could tell he was in pain form the look on his face when they pushed his wheelchair in the room.
I asked what the can of soda was for that they placed on the table. The nurse said we had to bribe him to get out of bed so we could change his sheets. It was so painful to move he didn't get out of bed even to pee.
So he's here sitting in front of me with his big brown eyes and a pout on his face. He looked as if he was going to cry.
I was stamping snowflakes, using the stipple brush to tap navy ink around the edges of the card. He watched for a while with curiosity as the ink transferred to the paper then he was willing to try it. He gently reached out for the stipple brush wincing with pain. He gently tapped the ink pad and lightly touched the paper. Before long he was slamming the ink pad and slamming the paper with that stipple brush. I sat back in amazement as he was smiling and having a good time! No pain was apparent now!!!
He was stamping away with joy until he noticed the nurse enter the room out of the corner of his eye and then...
the pain on his face returned as he put down the stipple brush and cradled his arm as he did before.
That little boy changed my life! He was the first of a long line of wonderful experiences.
It felt so good to have the time and the talent to share what I love. It felt so good to know that for 15 min this boy was no longer in any pain. It helped me see that I am needed and that there children here who need what we have to offer!

YOU too can make a difference.

Just make up your mind to set an hour a week aside to help make cards for the children.

After voting, these projects will be given to Sherrill Graff, event co-ordinator).

Stampin Up Alaska Cruise on Celebrity Infinity May 20-27 2011

This is the Room we were given on our stampin up Alaska cruise. We loved it and felt to spoiled. They cleaned our room each morning whie we were at the gym then they came and turned down the bed while we were at dinner.

Can you tell we are having fun already?

This is our first gathering, look at these one + mugs stampin up provided for our hot chocolate. There were tables full of candies, all kinds of candy and plenty of chocolate too!

Dinner with our friends Mark and I, Judy and Pablo, Susan and Doug. These dinners were my favorite part of our trip. Good friends, good conversations. Thanks friends for sharing each night with us.

Our first pillow gift! Love these gifts... Stampin Up rocks!

We gathered in the main theatre where Shelli and Pam showed us a TON of NEW products and projects and gave us the NEW catalog!!!! We took it to our rooms and looked at every single page!!! Whoo hooo... I already have a huge wish list and the new hostess sets are to die for!

We had dinner with Rich and Wendi and they took us up to see the bridge where the first mate was supervising while another officer drove the boat.

Formal night, it was so good to spend time with friends. Thanks Caroline for stopping by our table!

Why did I become a Demonstrator?

Back in 1990 my husband and I had 2 children, one was in kindergarten and the other was two years old.
The girls and I loved craft projects. In December I was introduced to rubber stamping by Shelli Gardner and Lavonne Crosby the sisters who started Stampin Up. I signed up a month later in January of 1991.
I signed up because I loved the products and I wanted the Demonstrator Discount!
Back then we ordered over the phone and the order was delivered to my home a couple weeks later.
Craft stores were 30-45 min away so this saved me driving time and the cost of gas.

When I first started using rubberstamps it was hard to find colors of cardstock and ink that matched. Stampin Up solved that problem by creating cardstocks, inks, markers, and ribbon that match perfectly. The other nice thing they do is they design their stamps in sets.

I love buying my stamps in sets because each stamp works well with the others in the set. It makes designing a card so easy! Each set comes in it's own case so it's easy to keep organized.

I can buy many of the same items offered in the stores without having to use a coupon!

Stampin Up has a hostess program which gives us free merchandise when we have a few friends over to show them how to stamp. I love helping my friends get good products at fair prices and earning free stamps when they have a "party" with their friends as well. I also earn a commission from all of my sales. I can keep it in cash or decide to spend it on more stamps and supplies.

I love getting the Stampin Up Magazine each month in the mail and having access to all the samples on a site called stampin connection... it's for demonstrators only.

Another thing about stampin up that I really love is you can build your own sales teams by helping your friends join the stampin up family.

Not only do we have fun people to stamp with but we get to go to convention, leadership and regional training's.

We get rewarded for our sales as well as for adding team members! The rewards include pins, stamp sets, recognition and cash as well as al expense paid trips for you and a loved one.
My husband and I went to Hawaii and are going to Alaska this year thanks to Stampin Up!

Over the years I made a few goals for myself
what started out as just a way to get stamps at a discount has ended up being a fun job that helps pay our household bills.
I enjoy seeing my team grow from one friend to a few hundred friends.
My biggest goal was to earn Founder's Circle which I did last year and to be promoted to Sr Executive which I just earned.

Boot Camp for Stampin Up business builders - We all NEED THIS

If you have not done assignments 1-15 lately, DO THEM Again NOW

Have you ever had a small drip in your kitchen sink or in your shower and placed a bucket to catch the water?
It does not take long before you have to empty the bucket.

Let's relate this to working our business.

When turn on your facet for short periods of time to fill up a glass or pitcher of water it's similar to the small spurts of activity many of us experience in our business.

It's easy to see how having a slow and steady drip will use more water than filling one or two glasses a day.

Remember the turtle, slow and steady wins the race?
If you go in the right direction and keep on moving you will eventually reach your goal.
It's more beneficial in the long run to be slow and consistent then to have a few small intense moments of effort.

Another way to think about it is to think about what will keep a pot of water warm longer.... putting the heat on low for a long period of time or, heating the water to boiling then turning it off.

It takes a lot of energy to Boil water, just like ti takes more energy to pull off a quota on the last week of the quarter then if we were to do little tasks each day that would result in eventual sales.
What do you think would happen if we tried to hold one more event each week then we are holding now?
Most of us would not think that task would be too hard.

Don't fall into the Hobby Demo procrastination trap- I have seen it over and over again. The hobby demo has fun making cards all month and shares a few with her friends. She typically only brings stampin up into the conversation when the other person says something about it first. She never asks others to host a workshop for her and would never dream of asking a customer to join her team!

For Hobby Demos who wish to Make their Hobby their business
Instead of having ONE HUGE undertaking on the last week of each quarter to try and stay active, try doing one small thing each day to help grow your business.

On the first day of the month send out 5 mini catalogs
On the second day, make 2 phone calls
On the 3rd day plan a few 1 hour "come stamp with me" activities
On the 4th day create a event calendar
On the 5th day pass that calendar our to a few friends
On the 6th day have friends over to stamp and give them your event calendar
On the 7th day, go out of your way to keep in touch with an old friend.
On the 8th day send out 5 more mini catalogs
On the 9th day ask a few people if they need any supplies because you are putting in a order
On the 20 day e-mail a few of your online friends the flyer for the $99 mini kit
Keep doing something small every day to grow your business!

It's easier to do a little each day for 10 days than it is to do all 10 of these things on one day!
By leaving all your tasks to do on one day, you are setting yourself up to fail.

What happens if you have a friend coming over for dinner on saturday but you never do dishes Monday-Thursday.
Friday you most likely call up your friend and postpone your dinner. Right?
Or The task looks so difficult, that you take your friend out to eat instead.

How many of you can relate to this.
This is procrastination at it's finest, don't do it!

YOU want to Build Your Business! You want success, You want to walk across the stage at convention, you want to earn the Disney Trip.... Plan one little thing to do each day that will get you where you want to go!
If what you plan is not going to cut it, plan 2 little things a day to help you reach your goal.

Plan Now to reach your goals, figure out now what you will need each month in sales.
Figure out now what you have to do each day of every week to make your dream a reality!

"aaaahhh...making samples for Founders Circle...WOW!!! I think it is very cool that the top demos in the company are going to have a card made my 'little old me'. When I first saw that Sherrill was looking for someone to make the cards...and it ended up being 140...I thought...you have got to be kidding! Then I realized that I had already designed a card that was nice, duplicatable and would be good so I sent it to her to see if she liked it. I have volunteered for 3 weeks of card making classes. I have 4 big shots and should be able to get some local stampin up demos to help me teach the kids.

One day I was in my craft room. I was listening to a talk on tape. I don't remember what the talk was about but I do remember the feeling that washed over me. The feeling gave me the desire to pray. My prayers was simple. I asked to be inspired to create something that would knock my customers socks off. I went back to my craft room and continued to listen to uplifting music while I worked.

May of you may remember me telling you about this inspiration.

This was one of the ideas we came up with. I say we because I did not come up with this all on my own. I believe I was blessed with Divine inspiration.

The 6X6 is in a page protector and has hinges made with the round tab punch. Then the hinges are attached to the outside of the 12X12 sheet protector creating an interactive scrapbook page!

That idea led to this one below.
As you can see from the photographs, the 6X6 opens.

The 8 1/2 X 11 opens up as well!
This allows mw to get 8 or more good size photos on one layout!

That idea led to this idea below.

This is five 6X6 sheet protectors attached to the front of this 12X12.

You can get 11 photos on this page. Then later on my husband suggested that I trim 1/4 inch off the sheet protectors so that I could get 2 rows of pages protectors all on this single 12X12!!!!!

I am so thankful for inspiration. I did end up knocking their socks off. I also sold 15 of these page kits in the first hour of my scrapbook crop.

I went on to teach this class over and over again over the next 2 years. It was so great to see how excited everyone was about this technique. I was also pleased to give the glory to God for the inspiration. He will bless us with ideas and answers to our prayers when we seek his council and follow his Spirit.

Is there something you have always wanted to do and people around you said you will never make that work, you can't possibly succeed.

Each of us have had people we know tell us to stop trying and go on to something else or use our time in a more productive way.

For many years I have loved beauty pageants. My mom had enjoyed them and I grew up thinking I could win one. I took modeling lessons, watched my weight and practiced walking in heels.
I was a Senior in High School and was looking forward to participating in the Miss Boulder City Pageant. Later that year we heard that the pageant was to be canceled.

At the last minute some volunteers put together a pageant and it went on as planned.
Many beautiful girls were in the pageant with me but I was determined to do my best.

I was blessed to be named Miss Boulder City 1982.

Later in life I was told by a volunteer who ran the Miss Boulder City Pageant that I was too young and inexperienced to run a pageant of that magnitude. She was leaving town and was going to drop the pageant all together rather than turn it over to me.

With the help of a few dear friends we put the pageant back together and ran a very successfully for over 10 years.

In 1991 I started with a company called stampin up. Friends told me "it's just a fad, it will never go anywhere" and "you will never make any money at it"

ing and made some important changes, but we kept working hard. I can’t
imagine my life today if we had decided to quit 20 years ago—the wonderful
relationships and rewarding experiences I would have missed out on. Life
is supposed to be hard, and one of the most important life lessons we can
learn is not to quit. "
